Current members are listed above. But many contributed before, some now blogging giants and some who blog no more.

Asterisks* throughout the sidebars denote the full roster of our talented team, past and present.

In the category below are those whose blogs are defunct, or blog extremely rarely, or who never had their own blog at all.

But it is a partial list, as all other past members are categorized by region, topic or both, elsewhere in these sidebars.

Welcome to this American Street. Ours is not the typical street gang. Our neighborhood is larger.

Our gang is spread out from coast to coast. We come from many regions, from city streets and country roads, from every economic class. We are blue-collar, white-collar, self-employed and unemployed.

We are single, married and divorced. We have children and are childless. We attend church and we don’t. We have advanced degrees, college and high school educations, and some have dropped out of high school. We work, we play, we cry, we laugh, we love, we get angry and we work things out.

We love America. We love its freedoms and ideals, its achievements and possibilities. We live and breathe the American Dream and refuse to surrender it to anyone.

We might live in your neighborhood. Our hopes and dreams and fears and beliefs are likely not much different than yours. We are any American Street. Our opinions matter as much as yours, no more and no less.

We believe America can do better. Let’s talk about how.

Background

Begun in January 2004 by a group of experienced bloggers, besides Kevin Hayden, the founding team consisted of Digby, Bill Scher, Jeralyn Merritt, skippy, David Neiwert, Mary Ratcliff, Jeff Alworth (also a co-founder of BlueOregon), Dave Johnson, Luis Toro, Mark Kleiman, Angry Bear & Kash, the Reverend Chuck Currie, Jesus’ General, Tom Burka, plus Shari, Fred Henning and Ross, who are no longer blogging.

Since then, we’ve recruited several teams, combining other highly popular bloggers with a wide array of talented individuals, many with expertise in journalism, history, government, politics, law, satire, arts, music and more.

Any links in our sidebars with an asterisk * indicates a blogger who formerly blogged here or currently does. We consider it our good fortune that we’ve been able to present such an ongoing array of talent for our readership through the years. And we strongly encourage our readers to comment, debate us, point out errors we might make, as essential members of our community.
