The Beggaring Opera

HogarthSceneFromTheBeggarsOpera.jpg

Not content with “documentaries”, like “Fahrenheit 9-11″, by that renegade NRA member Moore, or even movie “fiction”, like “Silver City”, by that hater of baseball team owners Sayles, the lefties are now exploiting classics of the musical theatre for their crusade against Our Noble Leader. Cleverly they are not attacking him directly, but only reminding people of the impending trials of former false friends who cruelly exploited their pretended popularity with him. Their latest assault is The Beggaring Opera, based on a very old English musical play, later rewritten by that open Marxist Brecht. Here’s one of its scurrilous songs, to a tune made famous later by Bobby Darin and Louis Armstrong:

Robbers use guns when they rob banks
To force tellers to lie still.
Ken Lay uses double books so
They don’t even feel the kill.

Robbers have to haul out bags of
Cash to make their getaway.
His wire transfers leave no trace so
Nothing points to Mister Lay.

Changing rules to allow new scams
Is easy with Senate wives.
Campaign funds now; plush jobs later.
It’s just cash, not people’s lives

There’s a big state on the west coast
Where the power costs are low.
Choke them off to fake a crisis.
Their poor voters need not know.

Bush the elder, Bush the younger,
And a host of other tools
Took his money, gave him favors,
Played the public all for fools.
