DNC meeting, continued

My battery is running out, so I have to hold off a bit, but I’ll report the vice-chair results as I get them.

Here’s a link to Dean’s acceptance speech.

update Those of you watching on C-SPAN must wonder what just happened. This is political machinations up close and personal! Meeks and Diaz withdrew, throwing their support to Honda in a bit of political theatre. There’s been talk about how the Cifuentes/Diaz (and Honda and Meeks) race was reflecting Puerto Rico politics. I’ll try to explain that when I have more battery, but one is from the pro-statehood faction and one is not.

Some think that Diaz was in the race just to withdraw in front of the crowd.

Ballots going out; I have 3 mins of juice left. Be back when we have results.

update 2:37 Each state delegation totaled up its votes. Now they’re going through roll call, just like at a national convention. It’s going to take awhile, so I snuck off to charge up a little.

It’s been a long day with no lunch breaks, etc. Maybe they do that on purpose? Still, it’s been relatively scripted, with the only real surprise being Diaz’s withdrawal and endorsement of Honda.

update OK, took a break and got some juice. I really do need an extra battery!

The roll call is almost done. It looks like Linda Chavez-Thompson and Susie Turnball will win a majority. The male chair race still isn’t decided.

The way this works is that the candidates have to have a majority. We’ll go to a second ballot if necessary, although it’s looking pretty good for Honda at the moment.

At last, we’re to Wyoming!

And Honda has the votes. It’s a wrap!

So, now that the elections are over, we DNC members can go back into obscurity. I’ll miss the emails and the purple pro-choice postcards.

No, not obscurity. If Dean delivers, folks like you are the grassroots who will deserve continued attention. You’ve made a helluva difference so far, so why stop?

  2. eRobin Says:

Thank you, Jenny, for the live-blogging. I’ve been enjoying it. I agree with Kevin - this is not the time for obscurity. Although I think I understand what you mean. It will be harder without Dean as the top dog and it will feel more like obscurity. For me anyway.

  3. Jenny Greenleaf Says:

Oh, I didn’t mean I was going to disappear. It’s just that during the chair race, the delegates were deluged with calls and mail. I started to gain an appreciation for how the voters felt in November. Now that the chair race is decided, I won’t be getting all the attention from the chair/vice-chair candidates.

I’m in this for the long haul, and I intend to make full use of my new contacts to do whatever I can to make the Democratic Party be the party everyone wants to be invited to.

  4. Hus-Band Says:

Better not disappear. Who will eat all this red licorice? Actually, time to kick the campaign up a notch. The message needs to be clear and be heard. And with Fux News jamming the mental airwaves, you’ll have to work twice as hard.
