SIX LEGREES OF SEPERATION

Black Republicans in Mississippi (all eight of them) went on the attack against Howard Dean yesterday. Showing just how worried Republicans are about the threat Dean poses to their hegemony.

“African American Republicans in the state are calling for the resignation of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean for comments they say are racially insensitive.

Mississippi Republican Executive Committee member Charles Evers said Dean should apologize and step down.

He told reporters Monday that in a February 11th speech to the D.N.C. Black Caucus, Dean said, “You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room?”

Then Dean added “Only if they had hotel staff in here.”

The Vermont Governor’s remarks were published in The Washington Post February 15th.

Evers stood among eight black Republican party members, making his comments at the Capitol Rotunda.

He said The former Democratic presidential candidate owes an apology to not only blacks but to America as well.

Charles evers said, “Ask the Democratic party do the same thing to Dean that Republicans and other Democrats did to Senator Lott. Ask him to step down, because he’s the wrong man for the position.”

LOL! A Black Republican from Mississippi attacking Howard Dean for being racially insensitive?!?

And he even had the chutzpah to invoke Trent Lott’s name. Well, when you call on Trent Lott to resign from the Senate, maybe we will take you seriously.

A young college Democrat was on hand to witness this travesty, incidentally.

Mike Biggs, the president of the Jackson State University College Democrats looked on as Evers made his comments.

Biggs is a senior and said he did not understand why Evers and Republicans did not call a press conference to discuss taking prescription drugs out of Medicaid, short changing teacher pay raises and taking money from public schools.

When asked his reaction to the Black Republican stance on Dean Biggs said, “When the governor took a picture with the Council for Conservative Citizens, I didn’t see Mr. Evers out asking the governor to, who refused by the way, to take the picture off the site, to get rid of him.”

Indeed.

“The election year Mississippi Black Hawk Barbecue and Political Rally held on July 19 drew dozens of political candidates and was attended by a crowd of over 500. The Black Hawk Barbecue is sponsored by the Council of Conservative Citizens to raise money for private academy school buses. (Pictured L-R: Chip Reynolds, State Senator Bucky Huggins, Ray Martin, GOP gubernatorial nominee Haley Barbour, John Thompson, and Black Hawk Rally emcee and C of CC Field Director Bill Lord.)”

Haley Barbour also used his support for the confederate flag as a wedge issue in his run for Governor a couple of years ago. (More here).

So, the hypocrisy is palpable.

What makes this attack all the more disgusting, is that Charles Evers is the brother of Medgar Evers.

He also stuck up for radical rightwing Bush judicail appointee, Charles Pickering.

I wonder what Medgar would think of his brother enabling and giving cover to politicians who routinely play the race card to get elected, or to advance an ideological agenda?

I hit the link to Charlie’s radio station website. in his bio, it says “…he began his journey as a civil rights activist and freedom fighter in 1963 at the untimely death of his brother, Medgar Evers.” Untimely death?? I don’t think I would’ve referred to my brother’s assassination that way.

Hey, it’s ol’ Hesiod*! I haven’t seen you around since…hmmm…oh, yeah, since your last post on Nov. 2, where you said you were heading out to a victory party! Thing is, your blog never would come up starting the next day; you might wanna check into that.

How was that party, by the way?

(*Hesiod - the KISS of the blogosphere: “This is my last farewell tour post, I swear! This is it! Last one! Read me now, or never again! I’m done! Got other things to do!”

    That you, Jeff Gannon?

  4. tomaig Says:

So your debating skills have deteriorated even farther, huh Hesiod? Now you have to resort to “outing” those who dare to bring up some of your more…nonsensical posts from the old Counterspin days? So if I ask you about those “tickets to Howard Dean’s inauguration”, you’ll splay all my Ip info up for all the world to see?
    VERY mature of you.

And let me make sure I understand you…you feel that Trent Lott should not only have given up his leadership post (which he did) but that he should have resigned from the Senate? Because of some offhand remarks he made several years ago? Maybe you should - to coin a phrase - Move On…

  5. Juan gewanfri Says:

The point tomaig is that none of these conservatives are sincerely outraged about what Dean said (and neither are you I’m sure.) If any of you were honest you would be much more outraged by the racist coddling and confederate flag venerating in your party. Spare me the fake outrage over some innocent needling of WHITE conservatives.

  6. Kevin Hayden Says:

No one requires that Black Americans be Democrats. But one would hope that, should they choose to be Republicans, they’d aspire to its once-conservative wing instead of its unethical extremist borrow-and-spend-and-spend-and-spend wing that lacks all cred. I wish more people of all colors could observe that distinction.

Dean’s remarks summed up a reality that some will never admit, but their color doesn’t make them correct.

And let’s stay on topic instead of worthless troll-shots directed at the blogger. Changing the subject is typical only of those who have nothing important to say, yet maintain such a lack of self-worth that they start flaming to get the attention they desperately crave.

  7. Yo Mama Says:

    That you, Jeff Gannon?

Nope, not even close. I’m liberal, for one thing, but I guess since I didn’t kiss your ass and thank you for gracing us with you political wisdom once more, I’m a wingnut troll, huh? No, I’m just a former reader who was disgusted by your cowardice. Abandoning the blog rather than stay and face the post-election music like the rest of us; man, that’s inspiring. Especially since you were quite adept at dishing it out, but I guess taking it like a man was out of the question.

But this, wow. I honestly had no idea you were such a petty, vindictive little shit. What was that supposed to accomplish? Just a little threat, a little intimidation to keep anyone else from questioning why you keep coming back for one more post after you swear you’re done forever?

Whatever, buddy. If the truth hurts that bad, I won’t bother you with it anymore. See ya, wouldn’t wanna be ya.

“And let’s stay on topic instead of worthless troll-shots directed at the blogger. Changing the subject is typical only of those who have nothing important to say, yet maintain such a lack of self-worth that they start flaming to get the attention they desperately crave.”

So by your choice of whom to chide, I can assume that you see nothing wrong with Hesiod’s “If-you-dis-me-I’ll-violate-your-privacy” tactics, huh?
And since by your thumbnail sketches of the motivations and psyches of “trolls” you reveal yourself to be an astute judge of human nature, I’m sure you see the obvious parallels with Hesiod and his
“…lack of self-worth that they start flaming to get the [approval]they desperately crave”…right?
Or is that a bit too nuanced for you?

  9. thatcoloredfella Says:

    Remember Hesiod,

If they’re shooting at you, then you must be doing something right!

I already have the Haley Barbour link bookmarked, but I didn’t know about Charles Evers!! Glad my father isn’t here to see this!

Having been called a racist for suggesting Black Republicans are genetically flawed and for criticizing the qualifications of Condi Rice, instigating manufactured outrage from the Right over Dean’s comments was a lot of fun!

If baiting the Right into looking hypocritical by jumping on his comments was Dean’s strategy, he’s batting a .1000 out of the box!

I’ve already speculated why Rudy Giuliani would travel to Mississippi to praise Trent Lott, but I’d like to see if you’ve considered it’s significance as I have?
