God Hates Fred Phelps.
Notorious rightwing, anti-gay hatemonger, Fred Phelps‘ daughter, Shirley Phelps-Roper, was carrying around this sign at one of her recent anti-gay and lesbian hate events:

That’s right. The rightwing, homophobic Christian nutbars are “thank[ing] God for 9/11.”

Some other signs this group frequently carries around at their protests include:
“God hates fags!”
“You’re degenerate filth!”
And, the somehow relevant:
“God hates America!”
I’d be happy to read what the LGF and Powerline crowd’s think of these unamerican wackjobs.
Lest you think that ain’t Ms. Phelps, here’s a link to a captioned photo that shows her holding up other anti-gay signs.
Then there’s the one where they show the sillouhette of a member of the Fire Department of New York with the word “Fags” over it.

But I bet all those so-called “Christians” are more than happy to line up at the seafood buffet.

it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what the phelps klan is an indictment of - religion in general…untreated mental illness …dysfunctional family systems…inbreeding…
probably for them to be ignored until they choke on the poison of their own hatred would be more attention than they deserve. but it’s probably the best option.
water balloons filled with cheap perfume work well too however.

These bozos always do that… they even picketed my place of work because we carry Swedish products. Fred is pissed at Sweden because they prosecuted a wingnut pastor for hate speech against gays.
They are wackjobs… they are the concrete version of trolls. Ignore them.

I might add that Fred’s granddaughter said that all gays needed to be killed. She ran against Tiffany Mueller, a lesbian city council person in Topeka, and lost. Even in Kansas, we aren’t *THAT* filled with hatred.

Heh. Indeed. As long as everyone to the left of Joe Lieberman is going to be held personally accountable for Ward Churchill…

“Heh. Indeed. As long as everyone to the left of Joe Lieberman is going to be held personally accountable for Ward Churchill…”
Why? Hesoid wasn’t say that LGF or Powerline should be held accountable. He just wants to know what they think of this charming little church.

Well, I’m not the elected representative of LGF, but I do post there from time to time, and I’ll tell you that I find those “unamerican whackjobs” to be just that–unamerican whackjobs.

Unbelievable - Don’t these people read the bible. Jesus’s main message is about love, compassion and non judgement. I just don’t get why people have to hate.

Why do they hate America and God so much? They make it clear that abortions in the 66th trimester deserve full consideration…
All joking aside, such haters can only exist via funding and they oughta get their funds attached to stop this kind of nonsense.

Chapel Hillians had a brush with the Phelps rhetoric last night during a Town Council meeting. A few speakers from out of town came forward to ask that the Council not request their legislative representatives to repeal of North Carolina’s Damage of Marriage Act. When one of these carpetbagging “hate the sin, love the sinner” speakers brought up the Phelps, one of the Council members asked him if he would tell the audience about the signs the Phelps like to use, which prompted a very strange exchange. The speaker, Hazen Ham, said “Why don’t you tell me what they say?” to the openly gay councilmember, trying to get him to say the F**-word. The council member declined and suggested that the speaker tell the public where upon the speaker wimped out. I guess having to say out loud what was in his heart was too much. What a coward.

Why give the Fascist Right a pass by consigning Fred’s Merry Skanksters to the “unAmerican whackjob” bin?
The only thing separating the Phelps of America from Bush, Inc.’s footsoldiers is that the former are very straightforward about their hate. They don’t hide it in codewords like “values” or other mealy-mouthed platitudes that are the snickering, wink-wink hallmark of Republican-speak… and that’s what the Tighty Righties really find offensive - their blatant, chilling honesty. Such bilious hate and burning vitriol may not be commendable, but it is damn revealing; and because it is, the last thing people of conscience should do is pretend they don’t exist. Ignoring the views Phelps & Company openly espouse is one of the things that got us where we’re at today.

Just a second–are you suggesting that there is any sort of government funding for those hateful views?

I live in Lawrence Kansas…and as many of you know, Kansas is the home of Freds little church. And Kansas is obviously a republican state…but Lawrence, where i live, thankfully is 56% democrat…pretty laid back…and we also have a large gay population, and im straight, but I have plenty gay friends, and their cool, i got no problem whatsoever with gays. But next month (April 18-24 i think) KU (Kansas University) is having a “pride week” were gays have their own little week to themselves, including a parade and concert. which i think is pretty cool…but god damnit…little Fred Phelps here has to come and protest and make us all feel like crap…if your a left winger, and live any where near lawrence, COME AND PROTEST FRED PHELPS…we need that douchey douche out of here
