What we can do to win back a better vision of the future
That last bit wasn’t very optimistic, but I don’t despair completely. There are things we can do, and over at The Panda’s Thumb there is an excellent example: donate books to school libraries. Volunteer your time. Pay attention to what your local school board is doing, and speak out. The conservatives have been working for years at the grassroots to corrupt the process of education in this country, and we have to get involved at the local level, too, to change things for the better.

More importantly, RUN for school committee. Springtime is frequently when local elections are held (certainly in my part of the country, New England), so now’s the time to get involved…

I completely agree with both of you. It’s easy to get discouraged when battling against the sociopathic monsters at the top, but there is no better place for an individual to begin the crumbling of a tyrannical political force within a democracy than within its schools.
It will especially be critical for that 35%-49% of sensible people in the grey states of the neo-confederacy, where defining fact from aberrant myth must be achieved for any youngster who wants to aid the progress of the world instead of leading it backwards into the Dark Ages.
