Justice DeLayed

Is the mighty Tom DeLay about to go down? Certainly there is much buzz in that direction on the Left Blogosphere today, as two articles, one in the New York Times and one in the Washington Post, document the House Leader’s creative interpretation of the word ethics.

As we used to say back home in the Ozarks, that boy is so crooked that when he dies they gonna have to screw him into the ground.

Here are just some of the questions surrounding Mr. DeLay:

Kos asks, Do we really want him to go?

Now, it would be nice if we could say these things are coming to light thanks to the intrepid reporting of the WaPo and NYT. But who’d be kidding who?

DeLay’s opponents inside the GOP are offering reporters the dirt, aiming to take him down. They don’t want him as the party’s albatross in 2006.

I’m actually rooting for him to survive another six months, but things don’t look so good.

Atrios agrees that DeLay is being served up to the news media by his own party:

The story here isn’t so much that DeLay’s about to go down, it’s that obviously he’s being knifed by people on his own side: [quote snipped]

open microwave, insert popcorn

Anyway, should’ve been obvious something like this was coming. Even the WSJ editorial board sent out a telegraph about a week ago.

On the other hand, says Jerome A. at MyDD,

So what if it’s in the NYTimes that DeLay paid his wife $500K over the past 5 years, that’s not the sort of corruption that Republicans will yield for– too par for the course. A 3rd DeLay Travel Controversy? Ok, WaPost, but is it on Fox News?

Although it’s evident a faction of the GOP wants the Bugman to go away, I suspect most of the GOP are looking to Karl Rove for a thumb’s up or thumb’s down. If Turd Blossom decides DeLay will become a liability in 2006, he’s gone. Otherwise, I bet he’ll hang on.

Judging by the Right Blogosphere, no directive has yet gone forth to cut the Bugman loose. The Righties are ignoring the story. They aren’t making excuses for him, which may be significant. But essentially they are just pretending there’s no story. Nothing to see. Move along.

So what are the Righties whining about today? Dr. Rusty S. at Jawa Report (linked at Little Green Footballs, to which I do not link) says Associated Press news photographers in Iraq are working for terrorists. Glennie is still quivering with outrage over Sandy Burger.

But the Nice Doggie is foaming at the mouth because the Canadian government is roiling in a scandal involving (you won’t believe this) kickbacks and payoffs. Imagine! No red-blooded American Republican would take kickbacks and payoffs, except, um, never mind.

What planet do these people come from? Anybody know?
