Help CNN count.

There was a massive anti-U.S. protest in Iraq today. How do I know it was massive? Check out this photo:

Anti-US protest crowd in Baghdad

I would say there are more than “several thousand” people in that protest. I’m not an expert at counting crowds, certainly, but compare it to this photo:

Anti-Bush/anti-GOP rally in New York, August 2004

That’s from the New York anti-Bush/Anti GOP protest in 2004. Over 100,000 people were estimated to be in that protest.

Now, maybe the above Iraqi protest wasn’t 100,000 people. But it was more than “several thousand.”

I bring this up because, well…the Chinese press accurately described the protest as a “huge crowd.” As did the Canadian press.

The Australian press, more specifically, said there were “tens of thousands” of protesters. As did the Indian press.

Even the AP used the figure “tens of thousands.”

But, you’ll never guess what number CNN used!’

    several thousand

Well, perhaps they don’t know how to count? Just write??

Perhaps someone should send their reports a few calculators?

I can’t believe anyone even watches CNN anymore.

I also noticed that the NYT said “thousands” in their headline but “tens of thousands” in the story.

I sure am grateful for those who watch the corporate news network, so I don’t have to.

Everything I saw yesterday either said “huge crowds” or “tens of thousands”.
