Al Franken’s Running For Senate
It has been much discussed and rumored. But it now appears that Al Franken will, indeed, be running for the US Senate in 2008 against Norm Coleman.
More details in this Salon.com piece, and a teaser from David Corn that sounds like Franken is serious. [Scroll down several text blocks and look for the boldfaced “Al Franken.”]
My humble opinion? 2008 will be a bigtime Democratic year. And I would not want to be a Republican running statewide in a traditional blue state in the upper midwest.
Especially not against a very entertaining, interesting and intelligent candidate like Al Franken.
And that would be true if I was a Republican with personality and a popular voting record, let alone if I was Norm Coleman.

A relative of mine works for the MN Dems, and was in the meeting Franken had to discuss campaign strategies that have worked for Dem challengers in Minnesota. Everybody’s fired up. Norm Coleman isn’t going to stand a chance. Franken will have the advantage of all the Wellstone folks throwing their support behind him. Any friend of Paul’s is a friend of ours.
