Get a Room

As of now it looks like Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) will be allowed by the Republicans to hold his hearings into pre-war planning and propaganda in the Capitol instead of in a room in the DNC building. Let freedom reign, huh? Of course who knows what tricks Tex Sensenbrenner has up his sleeve. He may interrupt the proceedings to bang his shoe on a table or cut the mics.
Starting at 2:30pm ET, C-Span will be covering the hearings, forum, whatever the Republicans are forcing them to be called. If you live in or near D.C., you can join in the post-hearing/forum march (it’s a march!!) from Lafayette Square Park to the White House to deliver Conyers’ letter to BushCo. The letter has over 540,000 signatures - a big, peaceful march to deliver it would be a beautiful thing.

UPDATE: Lots of good information about the Lafayette Square Park Rally and March (a march!!) at Progressive Dems of America via the DC Chapter of Drinking Liberally. Info after the jump: (I wish I could be there!)
Progressive Democrats of America, along with Congressman John Conyers and a massive coalition of more than 120 activist organizations and news providers, will be holding a rally this Thursday, June 16th, in Lafayette Park at the gates of the White House. The rally will begin at 5:00pm EST. It will focus on the demand for answers after the revelation of the Downing Street Minutes, and subsequent documentation, which has exposed the Bush administration’s willful manipulation of the American people and the world in their desire for war in Iraq at any cost.
Speakers at the rally include Ambassador Joseph Wilson, whose courageous exposure of the ‘Uranium from Niger’ fiction, promulgated by the Bush administration to justify war, led to the ruination of his wife’s CIA career through an act of despicable vengeance perpetrated by agents of the White House. Also speaking will be Ray McGovern, a 27-year veteran of the CIA and co-founder of Veterans Intelligence Professionals for Sanity.
The rally will likewise feature John Bonifaz, renowned constitutional lawyer and co-founder of AfterDowningStreet.org. Cindy Sheehan, whose son died in Iraq as the ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner was unfurled, will also be speaking, as will Medea Benjamin of CodePink, Stephen Cleghorn of Military Families Speak Out, the Reverend Lennox Yearwood of PDA, and others.
Rep. John Conyers will be speaking, along with several House allies. At the conclusion of the event, Rep. Conyers will take his letter demanding answers regarding the Downing Street Minutes – a letter which now holds the signatures of more than 540,000 Americans and over 100 Democratic Representatives – and personally deliver it to the White House.
…
This is the moment. After more than two years, after all the lies and the manipulation, after the deaths of more than 1,700 American soldiers and untold thousands of Iraqi civilians, after all the wounded, after all the fear, after watching hundreds of billions of our tax dollars funneled into the pockets of profiteers with umbilical links to the Bush administration, after the discovery of exactly no weapons of mass destruction, no anthrax, no VX nerve agent, no uranium from Niger, after all this and all the rest, the time is now. We march on Washington this Thursday, and we shall nail the truth to the White House door.
Our last call for donations to help make the hearing and rally a reality garnered an enormous and generous response from you, and we are enormously grateful for your help. We are making one last push for donations to make sure the rally on Thursday is as large, loud and well-publicized as it deserves to be. We are putting this together on very short notice, and a great deal of time and effort must be expended to pull together all the groups and all the information and all the people and all the press that will mark Thursday as a day when everything, finally, changed.
We can and will make history on Thursday, we can and will expose the lies of the Bush administration that led us to war, we can and will change the course of history that has for too long now run a bloody and violent path over the innocent. We can and we will, with your help. Please give what you can, and please come to Washington. We will see you in the park.
