What Will We Tell the Children?
Have you seen the video of BushCo’s pre-CAFTA passive agressive “fuck you” to the corporate media? What do you think? Is he cracking under the pressure? Is he drinking again? Simply drunk with the power of the presidency and the impotence of the corporate media who love him? Did he forget that profanity and aggression isn’t a Christain value or did he count on people understanding on a subconscious level if nothing else, that Christian values are closer to a prop closet for him than an actual code of behavior. Did he reveal his utter contempt for the people he governs or did he just share a joke with his supporters, who hate the corporate media as much as he fears what it can do if it chooses to? What are you going to do about it?
I’m not going miss the opportunity to get in the Conservative’s Culture War kitchen and use BushCo’s craven profanity to expose the rot on the Right that is destroying public discourse in America. I’ve already written to five editors of local papers using the PFAW Action Center to get the email addresses. I put a copy of the letter I wrote, and which you can feel free to modify and use yourself, below the fold. In two minutes, I’m going to call my representatives in Congress and the White House to ask for an apology for BushCo’s staggeringly inappropriate behavior. I suggest you do the same.

To the Editors:
While watching MSNBC, I witnessed President Bush giving “the finger” to the assembled members of the corporate media just before last night’s CAFTA vote. I am disappointed that the President would feel so obviously comfortable showing contempt not only for the assembled reporters, but also for the office he holds and the people he serves.
I happened to be watching television with my twelve-year old son last night when that clip came on. He was understandably shocked to see President Bush engage in behavior that he has come to view as common among his middle school classmates. He certainly never expected to see such crass behavior by the President of the United States. I have to confess that I was unable to explain to him President Bush’s choice to express his thoughts and fears with profanity.
It is a popular conservative argument that a permissive (read: liberal) society is lowering the level of social discourse. It seems that proponents of that view have to look no further than the Republican President to find a leading example of the steady, sad decline of civility in America.

Too bad that is his thumb, not his middle finger.

His thumb? I don’t think it’s possible for someone’s hand to be in that position, barring some sort of pretty esoteric cosmetic surgery to the wrist. Try it yourself, and try and get your thumb to be in the position of Maximum Leader Genus’s middle finger. I think you’d have to saw off your hand and reattach it rotated 90 degrees to have the thumb stick up in that position.

That can’t be his thumb. It’s too damn long as well as being in the wrong anatomical position.
More evidence, as if it were necessary, that the Chimp is basically a large, not overbright child. A petulant one, too.

I am preparing to teach a sculpture class on the anatomy of the hand.
That could be a thumb. But not on a human hand. Chimp, maybe. Human thumbs just don’t extend that far past the rest of the knuckles.

Here’s a frame-by-frame analysis of the video. It’s pretty clear it’s not a thumb.
