It’s not Antiwar; it’s anti-stupidity

Time’s Woman of the Year, Colleen Rowley, is joining the Peace Mom, Cindy Sheehan. Predictably, the Ratwing Blogosquare is dissing Rowley as just another liberal politician. Or as a leaker of classified information.

Rowley was a whistleblower that faced no disciplinary action because she had her bases covered (read: she violated nothing that placed her at risk). Had she been listened to when her internal FBI warnings were made, it’s conceivable the 9-11 attacks could have been prevented.

So this is what the ratwingers are all upset about? That someone tried to protect our country from terrorist attack? Or that someone’s revelations helped revamp the intel community’s ways of sharing intelligence, to prevent a reoccurrence?

No. They’re upset because she decided to enter politics as a Democratic candidate. And because her assessment of Iraq is correct.

Ms. Rowley has demonstrated her credibility and has earned the chance to be heard on other national security issues because of that. Her intel evaluation was correct.

Bush’s wasn’t and isn’t still. Nearly 2,000 coalition troops have died in Iraq and there’s more than 8 who’ve been wounded for every fatality. He’s earned nothing besides a 38% support rating. So why do his supporters continue to put a single guy’s standing ahead of our nation’s security? Especially while simultaneously dissing his predescessor for far smaller misjudgments.

Partisanship should never outweigh the national interest. Sadly, it’s become so kneejerk that we’re nearly kneecapped.

While I would argue the evidence points more to criminal malice than stupidity, the notion of honoring all the whistleblowers who’ve stuck their necks out is a good one. Maybe now Camp Casey has room for a BBQ, Clarke and Plame and Wilson and Gunn and Edmonds and the numerous military truth-tellers can gather for some fun and camaraderie. That’d be a party worth driving cross country for.

The Move America Forward caravan is supposed to be headed to Crawford the last weekend in August, to counter-protest Camp Casey. This could get ugly…
