Obligatory Catonian diatribe against Scalito
- I would like the media to know that I am a very clever person, and I can actually hold two thoughts in my head at the same time. Seriously. That means I want to see stories about both the corrupt, criminal behavior of this administration and their blatant pandering to right wing extremists with their supreme court nomination. Don’t insult my intelligence, or that of every other American, by pretending there’s only room for one story.
- Samuel Alito is a polyp sprouting from the diseased colon of the Republican party. I don’t care if he’s kind to his family, has a wonderful sense of humor, or refrains from branding women with an iron in the shape of an “A”—his political lineage is unambiguous, and that makes him a scabrous chancre not suitable for the office. He’s a last-gasp representative of an absolute failure of an administration, the final ghastly moan of a set of bankrupt political policies that are utterly wrong for our country. He must be opposed. Sign on to MoveOn’s petition.
- Right-wingers, don’t even try to play the game that he’s not going to foster discrimination or that he’s not going to want to overturn Roe v. Wade. He’s the choice of the Dobsons and Delays and Santorums and the rest of the Neandertal wing of the Republican party, so to pretend that he ought to be palatable to progressives is offensively stupid. If you want a rabid wingnut on the court, you’re getting one…so at least be honest enough to admit it rather than acting as if he might harbor a liberal whim or three somewhere in his fossilized brain, and that we ought to therefore support him.
- Democrats, you’d damn well better oppose this guy with every breath in your bodies. You may be outnumbered and your resistance may be futile, but if you aren’t gutsy enough to vote for progressive principles against a scumbag Scalito, don’t ever ask for my vote again. And yeah, I’m looking at you, Russ Feingold. Once was enough, and marshmallows do not constitute appropriate representation of my views.

The post that you linked to at INDC was written by Hubris, one of the contributors. And both he and I are pretty far from being or secretly wanting a “rabid wingnut on the court,” much less dishonestly hiding our secret wish. Very silly.
By the way, your comment template is annoying, it won’t let me go back into the post to add words - it keeps pulling the cursor back to the end as soon as I type one letter …

I suppose this rant constitutes a leftist’s reasoned argument against the nomination?
Good luck.

“he’s not going to foster discrimination”? Maybe you might want to be more specific. How is he going to foster discrimination? Why is it that you lefties continue to throw out these ridiculous assertions without any examples? Why? “against a scumbag Scalito” Is it the lack of intelligence that causes you libs to resort to name calling? You might want to consider being a little more civilized if you want to be taken seriously.

Alito’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court is right up there with W’s wins over algore and heinz. I’m going to really enjoy watching you anti-Americans try to defeat this nomination. Normal Americans are watching, not that you associated with them!

Enough of the name-calling. Lets get away from the wingnut-antiAmerican.
I am against this nominee. I don’t think he is a horrible person, I just believe that the Supreme Court needs more diversity in its makeup.
If confirmed, Alito would be, of the 9 justices, the:
8th caucasion
8th male
8th from east of the Mississippi
8th attendee of either Harvard or Yale
7th from the northeast
5th Roman Catholic
It is a small pool from which to select Supreme Court Justices. Are only white males from the northeast who attended Harvard or Yale qualified to make reasoned judicial decisions? Only one southerner (Thomas)? No other colleges need apply?

Bagley, I’m a polack, so I can tell this joke. I’m also old, but not as old as the joke.
A guy is writing a speech to give at the Sons of Kracow dinner. Asks this other guy to look it over and see what he thinks. Other guy says “you can’t open with a Polish joke, your audience is a Polish organization.” Guy answers “OK, I’ll tell it r.e.a.l s..l..o..w.”
I’m writing this real slow just for you:
That was a rant. That’s why it sounded like a rant and not a reasoned argument. It wasn’t meant to be a reasoned argument. That’s why it says “diatribe” in the title - that’s a word that means pretty much the same thing as “rant”.
If you look around, there are some reasoned arguments. I realize you’ve been exposed to neocons for long enough that you probably have difficulty remembering what a reasoned argument looks like, but give it a try. One hint is that they tend not to be labeled “diatribe” or “rant”.

Mark says “Supreme Court needs more diversity”. I forgot, you are the party of diversity instead of qualifications. That’s why our public school system is the joke of the western world. Are you for diversity in the NBA? You don’t care about diversity on the Supreme Court you want it stacked with left wing loons. Well you can’t have it. We won the election and W gets to do the picking. Get over it!

There is a revolution now happening in France.
My post on the American one that started in Toledo now happens to be at the very top of the food chain of a Google search on: –Ohio “rocks the size of baseballs”–. The incident started because the lawyers insisted that the Ku Klux Clan had a perfet “right” to march through a black neighborhood against “black gangs.” Our wonderful legal system, that fully supports government “dissapearances” of it’s citizens, does it again.
Toledo Was A War Zone.
Hundreds of anti-Nazi protesters became very aggressive. Many “threw rocks the size of baseballs.” This is peculiar. The Nazis thought they were going to march on Saturday in the middle of Toledo to protest “black gangs.” Instead, they provoked a riot before they could even march. It looks like Iraqification.
