Hypocrisy is written by the powerful
Juan Cole courageously defines the hypocrisy of the way pro-Zionists are treated, with Jack Abramoff the case in point.
History is written by the winners, it’s said. Today, we’d say, ‘the conqueror spins false rationale and claims it as the truth.’
As a result, the corporate media accepts the definitions of those holding power, so anti-abortion assaults are treated like crimes, but anti-property attacks by extreme environmentalists are called ‘eco-terrorism.’
With the GOP in power, Zionists, anti-abortionists, wiggy Christian zealots pushing intelligent design, homo-hate or the assassination of Hugo Chavez, the Posse Comitatus, Randy Weaver and other militia types and Aryan Supremacists all get a pass. They may be treated as kooks or as criminals, but they won’t be designated as terrorists. Meanwhile calls for the extermination or deportation of environmentalists, liberals, Democratic military veterans, ambassadorial war heroes like Joe Wilson, insiders-turned-critics like Richard Clarke and Colin Powell’s top aide that brand them as terror sympathizers or traitors, are considered status quo and acceptable.
You’re exactly right, Professor Cole. But it’s also true that when whole societies are labelled ‘rogue’, like the Palestinians, even their purported allies will use them as proxy pawns. Israelis have harmed them, as have most anti-Israel Arab nations. The same was true with Gypsies, and Armenians and is still true with Kurds. Pawns all, and they suffer from the actions of enemies and friends alike.

No doubt the arab governments use the Palestinian issue but I think there’s also a lot of genuine feeling about it too. It’s middle east’s Holocaust. Politicians in the west use the Holocaust to make political points all the time, but I dare say most genuinely feel that the event was a great wrong.
