United Slaves of America

63% of Americans said they had no objection to being probed anally by government sniffer machines if it meant the security of the United States would be ensured, including 44% who said they would volunteer for surgical castration to prevent terrorists from watching American TV.

slae of slavesA slightly larger majority–66%–said that allowing National Security agents to slowly roast their first-born children in front of their eyes was an acceptable way to prevent terrorism, and 65% said it was more important to let George Bush burn the Declaration of Independence and shove the Constitution up John Conyers’ butt “for just a little while” than to selfishly hang on to their pitiful last shreds of privacy and freedom, “even if it intrudes on privacy.”

51% said that Bush was such a scary guy that they would gladly agree to live under the interstate overpass and let Alberto Gonzales have their homes to house shock troops in, as long as they were allowed to have a bathroom break once a day.

Only 28% said they would rather breathe in ricin fumes than to give George Bush one more undeserved day of occupation in the Oval Office, and less than 17% could remember the definition of the word “democracy”.

A total of 502 randomly selected brain-damaged adults were interviewed Thursday night for this survey.

I think the poll was a sort of hoax. It was conducted in 2005 and even then it was a push poll. The results didn’t seem that strange to me though, except for Bush being so unpopular. I think a lot of the time people answer these questions purely on the basis of their view of the presdient.

Incidentally, according to Counterpunch Bush is now officially the most despised president in polling history with a whopping great 71% disapproval rating (compared to 66% as the worst Nixon ever reached).

  2. eRobin Says:

    This is brilliant.

  3. Clif Says:

The Post article is extremely dishonest because the question in effect said “is it okay for the government to look at the phone logs of tens of millions of Americans in order to catch the terrorists” which understandably got a high response. If the question was “do you think its okay to look at the phone logs of every single American, your own included, on the slight chance that this might help them catch a terrorist,” the answer would have been entirely different.

Yes, I know the poll’s essential question was flawed. In fact I’m not even sure the demos were scientific. But I know what the last 6 years has taught me about the cringing, yellow-belly nature of the American zeitgeist, and the ready manner in which my own people have given up every last decent thing they had to call their own just because some carny huckster in a suit called it “national security”. Leave them their TVs and guns, and you can have anything else, even their honor. They can opiate themselves with ersatz “reality” shows, and pretend their guns will save them from the most heavily armed, technologically advanced army the world has ever known.

    Slaves, baby. Nothing more.

THAT explains it! I can call off the dogs. I have been scratching my head all day trying to figure why Americanos have become so docile and obsequious under Bush’s snapping towels at America’s privacy, only to realize later that it was only overactive sebacious glands.
These stats help me to understand. Thanks for doing that research. I think Science should lose the “c”.

  6. TK Says:

Never underestimate the willingness of your neighbor to prostitute the Bill of Rights on a shit-stained mattress of fear. Back in the 80s, at the height of the Drug Hysteria, polls showed strong majorities willing to rat out their friends and neighbors on suspicion of drug use, and to “sacrifice some civil rights if it helped catch drug dealers.” You want to think Americans are fearless and brave. Most are complete morons.

  7. Laney Says:

Richard Borin, who did the WPost poll, has a record of using questionable methodolgy to produce polls that support Republican postions. See Jane Hamsher’s 5-2-06 post on the Firedoglake blog:

  8. Karena Says:

I have no doubt that the polls are skewed towards illiciting the response the White House needs, but I live in a liberal town and see plenty of oversized vehicles plastered with messages like “W, Still the President” and “Bush/Cheney.” I don’t remember a time in my life where a sitting President was advertised. These are not campaign stickers, they are new and they are like having giant pictures of Saddam Hussein on every corner. People are frightened and hiding behind our “bad ass” leaders to protect them and have no concept or concern where their fear and bigotry could lead. It is real scary.
