In like a lion, out like a lamb. Before the White House door hits him on the ass on the way out, Rumsfeld quotes Churchill:
“I have benefited greatly from criticism, and at no time have I suffered a lack thereof.”
Rumsfeld resigned or got fired after “a series of thoughtful conversations” with George Bush. The architect of a war built on lies leaves the same White House that covered his leaving with lies. All that remains is the obligatory Medal of Freedom pinned upon the Duke of Defense’s chest. The pinprick of the medal may remind us the prick to whom it is pinned is but one man who thought he was so right but the headlines today don’t have to wait for history to prove him wrong.
It’s a cheap satisfaction that the man who thought he could war in Iraq on the cheap so he could march on toward Iran and Syria now gets what he richly deserves. His boss who thrives on loyalty now offers Rumsfeld none. Bush’s sudden intelligence comes the day after an election that wasn’t about the war before it was.
Understatement rules the day. Or the day after:
The timing of the announcement left no doubt that Mr. Bush wanted to make a dramatic demonstration of flexibility in dealing with a war that has come to define his presidency.
What’s next for the Clown Prince? And what will be the title of Rumsfeld’s book?

Listening to the few lines Rumsfeld said at his sacking, I still think he just doesn’t get it. What is with this claim that this war was not understood or that it is a complex problem?! This man is so wedded to his and only his way of thinking that he continues to be as blind and arrogent as ever
