A rare treat from the broadcast music archives

For any eclectic connoisseur of music, this is an amazing find by a YouTuber: two genius composers, both multi-talented musicians, at a life intersection in 1963, years before I was aware of one of them. And I doubt very many others knew him then, either.

I’d guess this is improvisational jazz, of a sort. Or maybe ‘experimental noise’. But very, very amusing. (in two parts)

    Totally amazing. You Tube is a wundah. This episode has been rumored for years in various FZ bios, great to finally see a video. Also amazing that FZ (who was apparently still in High School at this point is already using wacky tape noise, etc. Thanks bunches!

    I saw it, but saw no real need to comment. Steve Allen was a comic genius, as well as an excellent composer. It’s a shame he had so little TV presence later in his life. As for Zappa, ho-hum.
