I’ll give credit where it’s due

Since emerging from a tough initial Afghanistan war with a semi-victory in December 2001, I’ve seen zero worth heralding in the Bush foreign or domestic policy worth cheering at all.

Till, with the aid of other nations, his negotiators reached a disarmament accord with North Korea. And this clinches the proof of its value.

There remains the caveat that this could be used as proof that some nations are willing to deal while others (Iran) do not, therefore invading Iran is necessary. Remember, North Korea had to build and test its bomb to gain a better bargaining position.

Iran, with one or two nukes, can’t be viewed as an imminent threat to anyone. It can exercise more power by turning off its oil spigot. Against enemies with far more nukes, a nuclear Iran would be an Iran capable only of defending itself. And yielding those nukes would grant them better concessions to benefit their hurting economy.

So, while I applaud the tentative accord, I remain wary that it’ll be a talking point in Bush’s desire to attack Iran. And as for Abrams & Bolton, well, this clearly indicates Cheney’s halcyon days are gone. I’ll be shocked if he stays in office till the end of this year.
