Thanks for saying most everything I’ve been meaning to say, and wanting others to hear, ever since the choice made plain to me was between the cokehead or the pot smoker*, and I was busy worrying about the impending (cough) Y2K crash**. I think that Wellstone has been well honored with your tribute to his vision.
And, of course, feel free to leave me a comment any time. While I’m not anywhere near the People’s Republic of Santa Monica***, vitrtually, Hullaballoo is right down the road from the American Street and the Funny Farm. I’ve heard you’ve even hung around these parts once upon a time. Please feel free to drop by any time - your voice is always welcome here.
[Editors’ Note: this entry has been cross-posted at the Funny Farm]
* - the cokehead won…
** - which I was relatively certain was a tempest on a teapot.
*** - I think I’m sort of equidistant from that locale, the People’s Republic of Seabrook, and the the Republic of Jose Ceurvo.

I fully understand the frustration of the progressives when they see the slow movement of our country towards enlightenment & modernity. We have to push for progress even while we accept gradualism… any progressive steps are better than backtacking and regression. Gosh, we had too many of those backward steps in the last several years.
With more electoral wins, instigated and supported by the netroots, we will start to make a bigger impact on our nation’s politics. Take back America, to me, means safeguarding the liberties of the Bill of Rights, promoting a progressive culture of life, and puting the lunatic fringe where it belongs–in the margins of American life.
We need more events like this; despite our disagreements about strategy, we share a common vision, and progressive values. It’s necessary to touch base and co-ordinate our activities with each other. And, yes, it’s nice to meet up and talk face to face with fellow humans of cosmopolitan ideas & demeanor.
