Cavemen, cavewomen, let’s call the whole thing stupid

Marty Lederman’s right: nobody’s answered yet why Nancy Pelosi permitted legislation to reach the floor of the House that resulted in certain Dems to give away our Constitutional rights to King Georgie.

Perhaps Bush’s team stage managed every detail so the Dems could not possibly gain the real truth. He’s been so completely trustworthy previously, so how could they possibly be aware that the Bill of Rights do, in fact, exist.

Or did, six tears ago.

Maybe they threatened to drag Nancy Pelosi if she failed to cave. Or maybe she’d have to swear an oath of abstinence and live like a neocon manly man.

Maybe the Dems were completely unaware that the war against the terrorists who actually attacked us has been so badly managed that Bush may yet snatch defeat from the jaws of near-victory.

Maybe nobody told them the damage Bush has done to our military forces, causing officers to flee in record numbers, damaging our military’s capacity to fight, and raising the possibility that we may yet see a military draft renewed for the first time since Mike Gravel ended it three decades ago.

And possibly, like Bush, they don’t understand that winning against the terrorists requires real democracy where Osama and Ayman live, not the false kind of puppetocracy imposed on Iraq, where the government faces demands to sell their oil rights away to US oil companies in return for Bush pulling out US troops.

Really, nobody’s sure why Nancy and the cave-men caved. By the process of elimination, however, I’ve narrowed the possible explanations down to three:

1) Cheney threatened to shoot them all in the face;

2) They believe the US needs a Big Brother ruling us, wiretapping us and watching our every move because we have too many rights; or

3) They believed some Republicans might help re-elect them if they gave Bush everything on his Christmas wishlist just like his parents and everyone else have done throughout his life, because spoiling a snotty brat is easier than listening to him whine about how unfair life is.

I suppose it’s also possible that they’ve just become accustomed to ass-kissing and grovelling at the feet of administration officials, accepting their consistent stream of lies because truthiness and principled representation is just too hard.

Whatever the reason, some things are clear. They didn’t do it because Pelosi’s a woman. They didn’t do it because they’re Republicans. They’ve proven an experienced woman and conservative Democrats can be just as stupid as Republicans led by an incompetent man.
