Fredo takes the boat ride…Why Now?

Is it possible that Fredo had to resign because of something that National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell said?
Or is it the cumulative effect of his lies on FISA and the midnight hospital visit? That and Federal Prosecutor scandals? Something else coming out?
Or, maybe he just wants to spend more time with his family?
