Thompsonomics

Fred ThompsonSour-pussed lightweight Fred Thompson was recently interviewed by Byron “Big Hair” York, who asked Thompson whether he favored extending the President’s tax-cuts. I’ll bet you can guess Fred’s answer to that whiffle ball of a question. Why yes, Fred says, because, of course, rich people like me already pay too much in taxes and shouldn’t have to pay more:

I believe in a progressive tax system, but we’ve got 40 percent of Americans now paying the entire tax bill, or 99 percent of it — five percent are paying over half the taxes in America

Even if you can’t tell the difference between a tax table and a fish taco, that should have set your bull shit detector off. Those figures are puffed up higher than Byron’s fluffy mane, but, neither York nor Thompson, have the good sense to tell the difference between a mild exaggeration in the numbers and a flat-out whopper.

What are the real figures, you ask? Well you can find them here. The top 40 percent of taxpayers pay 79 percent of the tax bill. And the top five percent pay 40% of the tax bill. It should be fun watching Thompson continue to soil himself over the next few months.
