When we leave, this will be Iraq
Kevin Drum pretty accurately describes it, except two things.
Oil. Iran.
Anyone who fails to mention that there’s monetary reasons for staying, overlooks one of Bush’s main motives for overstaying. The other motive is to topple the Iranian government and military.
But Kevin’s point was to counter the Chaos Hawks’ freakout scenarios and he did that perfectly. Still, the most dangerous group in the Middle East, the ones sowing further bloodshed and civil strife are our guys, by order of Bush.
When hunting for oil profits, they’ll stir up more death and more terrorists. Democracy’s not the goal. Profit comes first.
Our politicians have to keep us afraid to keep a majority of us invested in the game, just as they did throughout the Cold War. They have to keep all potential enemies of us, fighting each other. Divide & conquer, then get the oil…. works as a strategy,
Just don’t kid yourselves about the rationales. Side effects will come, terrorists will strike, blood will flow from tens of thousands or more, blowback will suck bigtime again. But to the masters of capital, that’s the price that’s paid. Or more accurately, that’s the price peons here and abroad pay so the masters can control more capital.
They are clever pirates as they face no personal danger in the process except by random chance. And they are just as bloodthirsty as Bin Laden, just as warped and twisted and evil. After all, profit is their fundamental religion and they’re good at making everyone else die for their sins.
No, I’m not anti-capitalism. I’m anti extreme capitalism. And I’m a realist, reporting what should be obvious.
