What Sally said
“If mothers ruled the world, there would be no god-damned wars in the first place.”
FOX TV deserves censure for censoring Sally Field’s comment, yet I have to add that I disagree with Fields.
It’s rich people who rule the world. Consider that George Bush, Dick Cheney and Osama Bin Laden are all spoiled brat millionaires. And rich women who have ruled their countries have displayed no more reluctance to go to war than men have: Maggie Thatcher, Golda Meir, Benazir Bhutto, Indira Gandhi come to mind.
I’d agree if she’d said there’d be fewer wars. But war is a perquisite of the rich and gender or maternalism does not automatically dissuade it.
Fox, per usual, was wrong to censor her. For once, they could have honestly refuted her logically. Instead, they chose the unAmerican coward’s way of censorship.
