Man, Unpinned
ABC News, ever alert for the important issues du jour:
An eagle-eyed reporter for the ABC affiliate in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, noticed something missing from Democratic presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama’s, D-Ill., lapels.
“You don’t have the American flag pin on. Is that a fashion statement?” the reporter asked, at the end of a brief interview with Obama on Wednesday. “Those have been on politicians since Sept. 12, 2001.”
Now how could a candidate wrangle some free press from that question? Obama didn’t disappoint.
“Bite me, you rectal itch of a flea. I burned it and snorted it out of your mother’s navel,” asserted Obama. Then he decked the guy and spat on his face, and gave the rest of his speech in perfect French.
Well, he wanted to.
“Instead,” he said, “I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testimony to my patriotism.”
In Iowa, some Obama supporters applauded the candidate’s fashion statement. Said Carrie Haurum of Waterloo: “He doesn’t need to wear that flag on his lapel. He wears it in his heart.”
But talk radio and cable news quickly pounced on the issue.
“It just shows you he’s not ready for the big time,” conservative Laura Ingrams opined on Fox News.
Said Sean Hannity: “Why do we wear pins? Because our country is under attack!”
And that, my fellow Americans, is what will get you through the dreaded day when you’re faced with an enraged suicide bomber, reaching for the detonator. The knowledge that Sean Hannity stands ready to intercede and spare your life, attacking them with the two inch hat pin that he uses to keep his brain from falling out of his cranium.
Meanwhile, Pamela Geller at Ballast Shrugs utilizes her superior deductive skills on the story to conclude that Katie Couric is really Eava Braun. (misspelling included)

It is amazing the way that today’s Republicans are making the 60s and 70s not only relevant again, but necessary again.
And of course, there’s a whole lot of Iraq vets who can sing “Sam Stone”, even if they’ve never heard it.
And it’s one two three …
What are we fighting for?

i have a flag pin on one of my jackets / the pins were handed out by the local supermarket after the trade center attack / flag symbols quickly became so taken over by warmongers that i almost apologized for my checks that have a wavy flag on them / they are the nicest ones i can choose for free with my account / i also have a couple of small flags on my carport / when i was a kid during ww2 me and the other kids on our block raised money to buy a big flag and the landlord of our building put a pole up for us / we took turns raising the flag inthe morning and taking it down at sunset which, as you might know, was correct flag procedure / i am still shocked to see the flag on so many other objects (and asses) / it is now treated with dishonor as well as with extreme cynical exploitation / thanks for an excellent blog
