Bush calls us to arms against the power of one
From Dan Froomkin:
For the first time in public, Bush warned of the risk of “World War III” if Iran gets nuclear weapons.
“I believe that the Iranian — if Iran had a nuclear weapon, it would be a dangerous threat to world peace. It would — this is — we got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel. So I told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon. And I take this very — I take the threat of Iran with a nuclear weapon very seriously.”
Israel has several hundred nukes. We have thousands. But if Iran gets one, they can threaten to demolish the world.
Uh-huh.
And the UN inspectors see no clear evidence they’re making one. And if they were to head that direction, it’d be 2012 or later before one was ready.
And the idiots running Iran’s government could be out of power by then.
I take nuclear weapons seriously but what Bush won’t say is they really can’t nuke Iran, not because of the civilian casualties, but because it’d cut off their oil for years.
It’s always about the oil.
It’s never about freeing Iranians from tyrants, even though they’re the Middle East country most ready to embrace a real democracy.
I take their lives and yearnings more seriously than one nuke.
