For the Vets
It being Veteran’s Day, I was out searching for Veteran’s Day material and came across Julia’s at Sisyphus Shrugged.
I can’t exceed that, so go read it. skippy’s got some good thoughts, as does Cookie Jill there, too.
Then I reached Alex at Army of Dude, and I started choking up. And Barbara O’Brien made me, an agnostic, hear the Voice of God.
So consider sending a holiday package to a service member.
Or help veterans record their stories.
Just do something, please.
Some things to view and reflect on:
The turning point that kept a nation intact.
The great defeat that heralded the beginning of the end.
Unidentified but not forgotten
10,489 from the War to end All Wars
The Mostest from the War to end All Wars
D Dead: Another War to End all Wars, Normandy American version
Another War to End all Wars, the largest foreign rest stop
But that’s supposed to be for Memorial Day, right? This is supposed to be a day for living veterans, after all. A time to honor our commitment to them. A time to honor those who returned and fought for freedom anew. Veterans who don’t fit our mental images. Veterans who depend on us to finish the mission they were sent to begin.
Active-duty, reservist, national guard or ex-military, they are our veterans. Our brothers and sisters. Not just this day but every day. Pro or anti-war, we should know how hard they’ve worked and how much they’ve endured and sacrificed and let kindness and consideration always be our guide.
