Latest poll shows Rudy in trouble
In Iowa, buoyed by a strong debate performance, Mike Huckabee surged well into the lead.. Mitt Romney’s trend upward has slowed to a near standstill 5 points behind Huckabee’s 29, But Rudy has dropped all the way down to 13%, barely ahead of Thompson’s 9%. With 5 weeks to go, it now looks like a two man race as Giuliani, stung by increasing number of unsavory details about his mayoralty, is cooked in Iowa. Polls for New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada should be watched to see if Rudy’s wounds are universal.
It’s not known how many security personnel accompanied Giuliani on his slide downhill or whether their pay was billed to the victory champagne fund.
John McCain and Ron Paul are at 7%, within easy reach of Thompson.
On the Democratic side, Obama has finally surpassed Clinton, with Edwards close behind. Now at 28% to 25% to 23% with 6% undecided, this race could swing to any of the top three. But Edwards’ support has held at this level while Hillary slid and Obama has risen.
