A Solution to Reid Selling out America on the FISA bill
Susie Madrak covers Glenn Greenwald’s wrenching tale about Harry Reid’s intent to break Senate rules and customs in his pell mell pursuit of the destruction of our Bill of Rights to demonstrate his determination to become the champion among George Bush’s many lap poodles.
Susie concludes:
I’m thinking that the point of reliving this scenario again and again and AGAIN is to remind us that the people who founded this country tried to find answers in the political system as it then existed. Most of them were solid, middle-class people with substantial holdings; they were people with something to lose.
They finally got to the point where they realized the system was irretrievably broken, and that’s when they said, “Enough.”
Maybe the question we should be asking ourselves today is, “When do we say ‘Enough’?” When do we risk losing something to fix the broken system?
Reid’s not up for re-election in 2008 but the other lap poodle Senator with dirty hands from the campaign cash from telecoms is one Senator Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia. So let’s have a Netroots fundraiser if retroactive immunity is granted. Let’s raise an enormous amount, specifically for any credible challenger who’ll announce to oppose Rockefeller. A Democrat, Independent, or even a Republican.
Sure, I know all the reasons there are to avoid surrendering a Democratic seat. But it’s certainly not going to benefit us if our Senate majority is consistently undermined by the likes of Constitution-killing DINOs like Jay.
And after all the insults and injuries that Reid and others have backhanded us with, all we need to do is JUST ONCE demonstrate that their liberal base will NOT be loyal to party turncoats.
We can’t change negative behavior by rewarding it. Endless whining and griping has had the practical effect of saying “Oh darn!” when we need to be saying “Fuck you into early retirement, Jay.”
And you might be amazed to discover how fast old lap poodles can learn new tricks if we defy conventional campaign wisdom and give Jay a defeat or even a scare.
Unless you think “Oh darn” will achieve anything constructive at all.
Long live the Constitution! Dump Jay Today!

I think I’ve written this once or twice
, but until we show we can and will demonstrate we can hurt them, the DNC types will never take progressives seriously. I think Rockefeller would be an excellent demonstration.

[…] Certainly I didn’t work so hard so a “Democratic” led Congress could send Bush yet another blank check for war funding– hundreds of billions of more unchecked spending, without even a suggestion of limitation or control of the Iraq or Afghanistan war projects. And not so that a bill repealing all possible accountability for private sector actors who cooperated in blatantly illegal and unconstitutional eavesdropping on American citizens might be liable for it would be championed by Harry Reid of all people. Or to give up on real reform for alternative minimum tax relief because billionaires might have to pay more taxes. […]
