Best Blog Posts of 2007

Jon Swift’s got them… he asked people to submit their own favorites of the year, of their own work. And it’s an impressive collection.

It was a wasted effort asking me though. I blog about so much that it goes by in a blur. I’m more often awed by someone else’s prose because I rarely have time to reflect on my own.

Writing in the pre-blog days, it was easier. Thinking there’s daily deadlines, I don’t rise to the levels of wordsmithery that I used to enjoy. Time for reflection and better craftsmanship is not available, unless you’re one of those geniuses who thinks in Shakespearian.

So I just chose a recent one that I thought was decent. But the others in the mix — Hooooooey! There’s some you’ll enjoy.

I often feel the way you do about it. However, the other side of it is that without solid deadlines, I have a tendency to either a) neglect my writing and never finish it or b) revise it ceaselessly and thus never reach a point where I feel as though it’s completed.

When I wrote for weekly newspapers was the best. That kind of deadline allowed me clarity and polish.
