A working public-private partnership

The Grey Lady lets us in on this most, most helpful news for all those torturers and torturers’ apprentices who might need a little help covering those pesky and occasionally gigantic legal bills.
It seems that for a mere $300 annual premium (half of which is paid for by our government), CIA employees need not worry about the first $200,000 in legal bills… great news for those just following orders! Wright & Company (you didn’t think it would be called “Left & Co.” did you? Or “Wrong & Co.”… as if!) insures government employees against those troublesome administrative and Congressional investigations where legal fees might be needed, and even throws in another $100K for criminal defense and will pay up to a million smacker judgment! Such a deal!
Obviously, most of our career spies (and the policy also covers officials in the FBI, Immigration Service and other job categories where it may be necessary to “take the gloves off” and go to, you know, “the dark side“) would prefer to keep these things… quiet. Which is why Wright & Company comes with its own security clearance! Wright & Co. is in the news because once in a while, some irritating journalist or attorney gets all pissy about things like destruction of videotapes of torture enhanced interrogation of men who haven’t even been charged the world’s super-baddest terrorists… well, like CIA super-spook Jose Rodiguez, your first words after “get that motherf&%*ing subpoena out of my face” will be “Get me Wright & Company!”
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ll sleep a little easier at night knowing that the men and women who might be called on to knock on my door in the middle of the night and drag me off to interrogation in some Third World shithole for no reason whatsoever other than I might have pissed off a neighbor or said something the government doesn’t like or no reason at all need not worry about having to face legal liability for behaving in ways of which Torquemada would have approved.
