Republicans caught changing their story again
Not only was it the Republicans who refused to extend the espionage law but now they admit the expiration of the law didn’t lose valuable information.
In his Saturday radio address, Bush called on Congress to quickly pass the wiretapping legislation when it returns Monday from a recess, saying telecommunications companies need the law to help the government monitor foreign terrorists and to protect them from class-action lawsuits.
“The House’s refusal to act is undermining our ability to get cooperation from private companies, and that undermines our effort to protect us from terrorist attacks,” Bush said in his second radio address in two weeks on the same issue.
The story today proves the President was wrong yesterday. And the way to resolve any inconvenience has worked effectively for over 200 years: work together and pass a law. Congress has gone more than half way in dozens of compromises. It’s Bush, for once that has to budge.
And in the meantime, he needs to stop lying to the American people and stirring up fear for political reasons.
