Crazy Britney is News; Crazy John Isn’t
Steve Benen takes the national media to task for its failure to give balanced coverage to McCain’s man-love for John Hagee.
John McCain sucks up to a truth-twisting hater, which others have chronicled very well:
“as a nation, America is under the curse of God.”
“All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they were recipients of the judgment of God for that.”
“Make plans to come and go home with a slave.”
“military confrontation with Iran is foretold in the Bible as a necessary precondition for the Second Coming.”
“The [Jewish] people wanted Him to be their Messiah, but He absolutely refused. The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah, it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews!”
“Most readers will be shocked by the clear record of history linking Adolf Hitler and the Roman Catholic Church in a conspiracy to exterminate the Jews.”
“Do you know the difference between a woman with PMS and a snarling Doberman pinscher? The answer is lipstick. Do you know the difference between a terrorist and a woman with PMS? You can negotiate with a terrorist.”
Is this what it takes for a Republican to get elected to the White House? Or have McCain’s better senses left him? Douglas MacArthur was dismissed by Truman after promoting a nuclear extermination of China. Which serves as a reminder that even war heroes can go off the rails, lose their ethical compass and fall victim to a weakening mind.
McCain’s embrace of Hagee and his utilization of snakes on his campaign plane (active lobbyists) displays how far he’s come from his days as a reformer and his time as a war hero. But maybe there’s enough Americans who want a hateful country and a government of, by and for the lobbyists.
That’s what John McCain thinks. I think he’s losing it. And the media is covering up his dementia.
