Watching John McCain reintroduce himself to America
He had to do it, since few Americans are old enough to remember the Pleistocene Era. But the Rove inspired tour taught us all a lot, didn’t it?
I learned:
a) John McCain made a lot of mistakes when he was young and feels we should forgive him that because he’s admitted his youthful transgressions (I’m okay with that, but let’s set the same standard for poor white trash and the kids in the ghetto and the migrant fieldhands, too, not reserve it for privileged guys from wealthy backgrounds).
b) He refused deferential treatment for his family status as a POW 35 years ago. (He earned his points for that. And that’s the main thing that’s propelled him this far. Now if he’d apply that same principle to (a) above, that’d be consistent with the same heroic principle.
c) He dated a Brazilian model 50 years ago. WTF does that have to do with Presidential qualifications? “I useta be a stud” is the clear point of that. But how does that compare to PUBLICLY calling his wife a ‘cunt’ 16 years ago, in front of numerous reporters? What a great kind of heroic, studly role model is that?
Over at Crooks & Liars, SilentPatriot offers up more recent examples of the attributes of Senator Straight Talking Good Humor Darling of the corporate media.
Because the McCain that McCain and Rove is selling is just so yesterday in a time that demands the best of the present day.
