Pennsylvania voters now hold the power to create transformative change
Via CNN:
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — Barack Obama said Saturday that if he has offended people with comments he made almost a week ago where he labeled small town Pennsylvanians “bitter” and that they “cling to guns and religion” then he regrets it.
“Obviously, if I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that,” Obama said in an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal, according to a transcript provided by his campaign.
“The underlying truth of what I said remains, which is simply that people who have seen their way of life upended because of economic distress are frustrated and rightfully so,” he told the North Carolina newspaper. “And I hear it all the time when I visit these communities.”
Team McCain responded with the predictable attack. Today’s talkies will certainly maintain the controversy in the public eye. And I expect minor slippage in the Monday/Tuesday PA polling. But as I also expect the stockmarket to be distressing on both days, the import of the distress within the national economy will only reinforce Obama’s central message: thie economy is screwed and we’re going to need unity and focus to dig our way out of the anger and despair.
And if Pennsylvania voters hand a primary victory to Obama nine days from now, that will send panic through every status quo eltway insider in BOTH parties and shake up more than a few members inhabiting corporate boardrooms.
Yes, Pennsylvanians hold an awesome potential at this historic moment. If they get Obama’s message and back him, the complacent politicians and corporate fatcats across the nation will wake up to the new reality that the public really is mad as hell and doesn’t intend to take their bullshit and neglect anymore.
