Owning John McCain
USA Today is doing a series on lobbyists in the presidential race and focuses today on those oozing from the John “I’m Still Reforming Myself” McCain campaign.
His spokeswoman, Jill Hazelbaker, tries to pin the same tag on Obama, even though Obama keeps a safe distance:
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama does not allow registered lobbyists to work for his campaign but has some lobbyists as informal advisers. Lobbyist Broderick Johnson, for example, is an informal adviser who represents such clients as Verizon, Microsoft, Shell Oil and the Ford Motor Co.
Hazelbaker:
Hazelbaker suggested Obama was being disingenuous because he does not restrict the lobbying activities of his advisers. Obama’s campaign co-chairman, former South Carolina governor Jim Hodges, was a registered lobbyist from June 2007 until March for Chicago-based financial services firm Hillenbrand Partners.
“The McCain campaign has put forward the most stringent policy of any presidential campaign in history, and it will be instructive to see if Obama meets the standard set by McCain,” Hazelbaker said in an e-mail.
The standard McCain just set has been exceeded by Obama throughout. For one thing, Obama has more sense than to have a suspect spokesperson like Hazelbaker, who must loan out her computer to dirty tricksters if she’s not the trickster herself.
Clean John keeps getting dirtier the closer we look.
Update: and speaking of McCain’s lobbyists, let’s consider the guys who helped deliver Iran’s double agent, Chalabi, who turned out to be the only source of intelligence that Bush listened to, to launch a war on Iraq. It only took Bush 6 years to realize the CIA was right in the 1990s: Chalabi was a fraudulent asshole who specializes in getting rich off governments by telling them whatever they want to hear.
Face it: John McCain will buy any lie from any liar that justifies going to war. If that’s the only way he can get his softwood up, somebody should put him in touch with Bob Dole. Viagra, after all, doesn’t require the human sacrifices McCain’s so eager to make.
