OK, This Frivolous Law Suit Thing Has Gone Too Far

Via: U.S. House passes bill to sue OPEC over oil prices.

That’s right, we’re bringing out the big guns and suing Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela for violating American antitrust laws. Cartels and other such price-fixing monopolies are just unAmerican! If those bastards can’t play by our rules, we’ll bury them in litigation.

Problem solved! I expect gas to drop to pre-Bush $1.60/gallon levels any day now.

  1. Kevin Hayden Says:

There’s less fatalities when we send in lawyers. Improvised Legal Devices are rarely lethal.

Of course, if the Carter Doctrine on energy had not been decimated by conservatives for 27 years, eager to screw their grandkids, the price shocks now wouldn’t be so intense, just as they wouldn’t be if Bush hadn’t attacked Iraq.

Congress, of course, is displaying further stupidity with this bill. No conservation measures, no funding sustainable alternatives, ignoring the rise in profits matching the rise in prices, nothing about the gouging, Cheney’s Energy Task Force conspiracy. Just another safe gimmick in an election year: get the foreigner.

  2. Kevin Hayden Says:

    Oops:

The legislation also creates a Justice Department task force to aggressively investigate gasoline price gouging and energy market manipulation.

Okay, I got that part wrong.
