McCain denies the importance of saving troop lives

He just doesn’t understand why America wants the illegal war to cease.

When he says he wants them “to come home with honor” he’s parroting Nixon’s pledge to provide “peace with honor.” And many Americans remember the grim details of what that meant: honorable funerals, of thousands more troops than was necessary.

A war can’t be ended honorably when the political decisions that undercut the military were dishonorable from the outset. Just as in Vietnam, American troops were not defeated, ever. Only American politicians were viewed dishonorably along with a very few troops who took part in actions outside the bounds of law.

Honor cannot be restored to the Bush administration, Senator McSame. But troops can be restored to their families and lives can be saved. That’s very important to understand. Even if you haven’t learned the lessons of 3 to 4 decades ago.

That’s not a political calculation, it’s a life and death matter.

And still the old dusty bastard doesn’t want to use the word occupation? We are and will continue to be an occupying force and by being such, we will continue to inflame the Middle East with our presence.
