The WMD spreader that got away

As I’ve noted numerous times through the years, it’s AQ Khan, and never was Saddam Hussein. And what he spread is now revealed in all its shocking glory.

In reality, the late 1970s-1980s anti-nuclear arms movement we fought so hard for was for this and the potential for nuclear accidents. It comes as no surprise that one of our worst fears is now confirmed.

Granted, terrorist orgs have lacked the manufacturing capacity to turn designs into reality. But it also means that nations that possess the capacity will likely be going nuclear in the not too distant future.

A total ban and destruction of nuclear stockpiles, coupled with international security teams to guard raw fissile material sources, remain the best available options going forward.

It should be noted, too, how perverse the political process is that has functioned for the past 8 years. Consider (a) the twin heads of Al Qaeda came from Saudi Arabia and Egypt, (b) Al Qaeda funding largely came from Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other Arab nations but has never been tracked to Iraq or Iran, (c) Al Qaeda terror training occurred in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Somalia, mostly, (d) nuclear design and technology came from AQ Khan of Pakistan, (e) base headquarters of Al Qaida’s principals was provided by Afghanistan, and (e) the 9-11 attackers came mostly from Saudi Arabia, plus Egypt and Yemen.

Out of the 10+ principal nations complicit in sustaining and equipping Al Qaeda or in spreading nuclear technology, the Bush administration remains allied with most of them and has only directly attacked Afghanistan. Plus it attacked a non-involved party (Iraq) and regularly threatens the non-involved Iran.

How much fishier can it get than that?

We cannot correct the past but we sure as hell can put grownups in charge of our foreign policy. Maybe they can eliminate Al Qaida and do something significant to stop the ongoing nuclear danger. Bush can’t do it and McCain has offered no plan to accomplish either. All they’ve done is criticize Obama’s willingness to talk to Iran.

We can improve the odds for the future. Yes. We. Can.

    Bush LIHOP or MIHOP?

Let’s hope Obama opens new investigations on 9/11 and the phony “War on Terror.” The bushies need life in prison for treason, to straighten them out. Maybe the death penalty. Mere impeachment won’t do it.

Time to shift our foreign policy center back to America, and out of Texas and Tel Aviv. Talk about an enemies list! Just circle all of Dubya’s chic, I mean, sheik friends.

Interesting how McBush only focuses on Iran, hunh? They’re potential nuclear missile end-users, not suppliers. We especially need to crack down on China, N. Korea and Pakistan. Before they enable a nuclear war.
