Obama defenders: let’s get real

I don’t think miscegenation was part of the Video from McStupid. I don’t think it was racist. It was just amateurish, irrelevant to most voters and plain old dumb.

Had he tried to portray Obama as simply cocky, he would have scored an actual hit. There’s a difference between confident and gratingly cocky and Obama occasionally DOES stray into the latter. And should be called on it, before he reaches to Bush Arrogance depths. We’ve already had enough of that for one lifetime.

But McCain’s ad over-reaches with the long discredited claim that Obama’s all talk and no delivery. Or did McCain not pay attention during the primaries?

Whatev.

I’m not in the biz of promoting mcCain or Obama. But the bottom line here is that Obama created the opening that McCain’s attacking. Too bad for McCain that he couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with a barn owl. And Obama’s attitude is exceeded by McCain’s ineptitude.

  1. Mark Adams Says:

I’m not so much in the Obama promotion game as still fighting the forces of evil, which remains repression and exploitation by the corporate controlled GOP abetted by a compliant corporate media spreading their lies and distortions unfiltered and without critique.

But as I mentioned in my update to the post below, McCain’s stupefying missteps lately may not be for our consumption, but merely laying the groundwork, preparing the battlefield by softening up the refs.

And it’s working. Case in point, even liberal bloggers get distracted and question Obama’s attitude, accepting Karl Rove’s preposterous accusation that Obama is the guy in the country club sipping martinis as opposed to analyzing issues, issues, issues and pounding what matters.

Rove and his minions now running McCain’s campaign are setting the agenda, the media as usual parrots their poison, and instead of marveling at what possibilities await when a less corrupt and more responsive, responsible and intelligent administration takes over, we’re wondering if we like Obama’s “attitude?”

Um, no. Let’s not go there. It’s dangerously close, as close (maybe) as McRove can come to calling Obama “uppity.” It’s a clear continuation of exploiting the usual GOP tactic emphasizing the sad human tendency to internalize the notion that “other people suck.”

There are a lot of reasons not to trust/support/vote for Obama if that’s what one desires, that has nothing in common with accepting the terms upon which the GOP wants (and needs) to frame this election — which is to make it about Obama’s character and fitness as opposed to four decades of John McCain and his GOP wrecking and raping this nation.

  2. Dugan Says:

I agree with Mark. The Image rules in TV spots. Right down to the final image of McCain. He’s shown in profile. We only see the right side of his face. They don’t want to show you the bulging growth on his left cheek.

They show Obama, large crowds ( is that the Washington Monument? What kind of Black Man thinks he can give a speech there?), young, blond women celebrities (no projecting there, eh Johnny!). Why did they chose Paris Hilton and Britney Spears? Why not Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie? They are certainly more “popular” than Spears or Hilton. Why not Bono!?! Amateurish, irrelevant, and plain old dumb plays really well in more markets than you may think. By associating Obama with Spears and Hilton, McRovain is playing to the lowest common denominator in pop culture.

Paris Hilton sex tapes, Brittany Spears being photographed with no panties on, etc. If McRovain was just going to make a commentary on Obama’s “Rock Star Popularity”, why not show Bruce Springsteen or The Rolling Stones, or Paul McCartney? They can fill football stadiums with fans, I doubt Spears and Hilton could. Maybe the ad isn’t racist, but they are aiming to associate a Black Man with Blond Women Pop Culture Sex Symbols. Now why would they do that?

  3. btchakir Says:

Want to keep in touch with Obama’s response to the lies, low blows and desperate crap that McCain and his minions are putting out?

Notice stuff like this in NY Times Editorials??? :

“Well, that certainly didn’t take long…The candidate [John McCain] who started out talking about high-minded, civil debate has wholeheartedly adopted Mr. Rove’s low-minded and uncivil playbook.”
