When fundamentalists rule

They put added burdens on rape victims:

Eight years ago, complaints about charging rape victims for medical exams in Wasilla prompted the Alaska Legislature to pass a bill — signed into law by Knowles — that banned the practice statewide.

“There was one town in Alaska that was charging victims for this, and that was Wasilla,” Knowles said

A May 23, 2000, article in Wasilla’s newspaper, The Frontiersman, noted that Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies regularly pay for such exams, which cost between $300 and $1,200 apiece.

“(But) the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests,” the newspaper reported.

It also quoted Wasilla Police Chief Charlie Fannon objecting to the law. Fannon was appointed to his position by Palin after her dismissal of the previous police chief. He said it would cost Wasilla $5,000 to $14,000 a year if the city had to foot the bill for rape exams.

“In the past we’ve charged the cost of exams to the victims’ insurance company when possible,” Fannon told the newspaper. “I just don’t want to see any more burden put on the taxpayer.”

An effort to reach Fannon by phone Wednesday was not successful.

I’m sick of coverage of Palin. Our country has serious problems needing address and the candidate is McCain, not some backwoods hillbilly dunderhead whose idea of protecting the citizens is to hide behind John McCain’s flabby ass firing spitballs at Obama. I don’t give a lipsticked rat’s ass what gender it is, but the Mayor of Mooseberry is proving to be a callous whacko if this is how rape victims get treated.

I’ve already seen firsthand the shabby way some victims are treated and I know many women who delay or avoid going to the police to begin with. My daughter, a rape victim, now counsels her friends to not go to the police at all in the city where she used to live. And I think she’s absolutely right. The detective and prosecutor there that she had to deal with deserve to be raped themselves for the way they treated her. So no, this isn’t an issue I’ll ever be objective about.

To Palin and Fannon, I can only say “you’re fucking assholes” for putting anything in the way of the victims of assault and battery. I’d say the same if you were Democrats, Martians, or heart-bearing humans. Obviously you don’t come close to resembling any of those. Your logic and ethics don’t begin to come close to normal.

You’re both fucking scum and I feel sorry for the scum.

She’s such a gimmick. The odd thing is that she really is an empty celebrity, far more so an Obama ever will be.
