Monsters vs. Aliens: whatever, they’re inhuman
Nietschze: “Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.”
Effectiveness justifies everything, in the minds of men without conscience, most of whom, in the absence of power, are called sociopaths. History, unfortunately, rarely prosecutes the victors for war crimes, though in war, war crimes are always committed, on both sides.
What makes the Cheney/Rummy/neocon tortures and lies more egregious is that so many were sufficiently evident as unlawful or false that this belated pretense rings as hollow as a tinman’s head.
Do we need a judge or jury to tell us Cheney is a dangerous freak who’s enriched himself at the public treasury while committing mass murders, well beyond torture? No. Should he pay for his crimes? Of course. And he won’t, just as Pinochet didn’t.
Hang him in effigy. Denounce him constantly, every remaining day of his likely short life. Impeach Judge Bybee. Hassle these criminals forever.
And remind everyone how much extra risk they caused to every US POW for years into the future. And maybe some power dispensing a universal justice, will make these men suffer terribly, as they should.
